As temperatures drop and the weather becomes less pleasant, many swimming enthusiasts return to indoor pools. But which swimming pools are particularly popular with guests? A recent analysis reveals which facilities in Germany receive the best ratings. Topping the list is not a large wellness complex, but a small, volunteer-run swimming pool in Münster.
Small Community Pool in Münster Tops the Ranking
With an average rating of 4.7 out of five stars, the Bürgerbad Handorf in Münster takes first place among Germany’s best-rated indoor pools in 2026. The study by Wellnessurlaub.com evaluated around 720,000 Google reviews of a total of 505 indoor pools in 200 German cities.1 The decisive factor was the visitors’ ratings, not the assessment of an expert jury.
The frontrunner stands out mainly due to its manageable size and volunteer commitment. While other swimming pools have significantly more reviews, the rating for Bürgerbad Handorf is based on just 81 Google reviews.
According to the analysis, the affordable admission prices, offerings for toddlers, and family-friendly atmosphere are particularly appreciated. This shows that satisfied visitors do not necessarily require large water landscapes or extensive wellness offerings.
Halle and Wuppertal Secure the Other Podium Places
The Robert-Koch-Schwimmhalle in Halle (Saale) takes second place. With an average of 4.6 stars from 448 Google reviews, it is also among Germany’s most popular indoor pools.
The swimming hall is primarily geared toward competitive swimming. Its 50-meter pool is located on a sports campus that includes an Olympic training center, a sports boarding school, and sports schools. During the week, the facility is mainly used by competitive athletes. However, recreational swimmers can also swim there on weekends.
The third place goes to the Schwimmsportleistungszentrum Wuppertal. This facility also achieves an average of 4.6 stars, but based on 338 reviews. In addition to an Olympic 50-meter swimming pool, the facility has a teaching pool with a counter-current system.
Thus, two of the top three spots go to swimming halls where competitive swimming is the focus.

What the Indoor Pool Ranking Reveals About the Popularity of the Pools
A look at the ten best-rated indoor pools shows how diverse the facilities are that are well-received by visitors. In addition to classic sports and swimming halls, facilities with a stronger focus on relaxation and wellness, such as the Carolus Thermen in Aachen and the Mineraltherme Böblingen, are also among the top ten.
The result shows at least that smaller swimming pools can also rank high in Google reviews. While other facilities have large sports pools or extensive offerings, the frontrunner from Münster is mainly appreciated for its low admission prices and family-friendly atmosphere.
However, when interpreting the results, it is also worth looking at the number of reviews. The Bürgerbad Handorf achieves its top rating based on only 81 reviews, while the second-placed Robert-Koch-Schwimmhalle has 448 reviews. The star ratings thus provide an impression of guest satisfaction but are not automatically an objective measure of the quality or amenities of an indoor pool.
