Hummingbird triumphed in the Fitfood category against the four other finalists of the REWE Start-up Awards (Selo, Nuri Food, Wildcorn, and Oh my Dough). The product not only impressed with its taste but also with its appealing packaging and its superfood-based smoothie balls, which are truly healthy.

What’s Behind Hummingbird

Benjamin Seer, founder of Hummingbird, was not a big breakfast fan as a child. However, this changed after a trip through Australia. In a café in Melbourne, he observed how smoothies were enhanced with various superfoods. He wanted to replicate this at home–with minimal effort. The idea for Hummingbird was born. This led to the creation of “Blendies”–table tennis ball-sized smoothie balls made from superfoods–which can be mixed with some water and fruit into a delicious and healthy breakfast in just a few seconds.

And why is it called Hummingbird? “The name Hummingbird was inspired by the morning bird, the hummingbird. It is known not only for its lightness, curiosity, and zest for life but also for its lively nature and the great energy it puts into each wing beat,” explains Benjamin.

Our winner, by the way, can look forward to a stylish trophy, a nationwide listing with the REWE delivery service, and a lucrative media package on FITBOOK.de.

Even More Winners!

The REWE Start-up Award went to Selo–who impressed the jury with their green coffee products.

“The product has an excellent taste and is appealing, both in terms of price and design. Additionally, it offers customers added value, something new that isn’t yet available in supermarkets. In this respect, Selo, with its three innovative beverage variants, perfectly meets the requirements for an outstanding industry innovation, in which we see great market potential. It is therefore only logical to give Selo Green Coffee a chance on the shelves of our REWE stores,” explains Hans-Jürgen Moog (REWE purchasing chief and juror in the inventor show ‘Das Ding des Jahres’) the choice of the winner.
