Halloween with kids usually means: sugar, chocolate–and then stomachaches. I still vividly remember the last kids’ Halloween night in our neighborhood: The little ones were adorably dressed up, but by 8 p.m. at the latest, there was sugar chaos. This year, I wanted to do it differently–spooky but healthy. So, I fired up the air fryer and tested three snacks that look like they’re from a ghost kitchen but are full of vitamins, fiber, and healthy fats.

What Does “Healthy Halloween Snacks” Even Mean?
Healthy here means: no industrial sugar, low fat, and as natural ingredients as possible. Kids love it colorful and fun–and that’s exactly what you can achieve with fruits, vegetables, and healthy dips.
The German Nutrition Society (DGE) emphasizes that nutrition has a significant impact on growth, development, and well-being from the start. Especially in the early years, digestive organs, metabolism, and the immune system are still maturing–and neuromotor development is progressing rapidly. Due to strong growth, children’s energy and nutrient needs are particularly high.1
Therefore, the more natural and nutrient-rich the snacks, the better they support development. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein-rich ingredients provide exactly what little bodies need–and with a bit of creativity, they also look really spooky!
Recipe 1: Monster Muffins with Oats and Banana
When the scent of these muffins wafts through the kitchen, you know: Magic is happening here. Oats, ripe bananas, and eggs–that’s almost all you need. Thanks to the natural sweetness of the banana and baking in the air fryer, the muffins turn golden brown on the outside, moist and warm on the inside.

I decorated them with raisins and small chocolate chips as eyes, and suddenly little “monsters” were grinning at me from the air fryer drawer. My nephew grabbed two muffins right away–my niece, on the other hand, just looked skeptically and said, “Don’t want.” (She’s three years old. I don’t hold it against her).
Ingredients (for 6 muffins):
- 2 ripe bananas
- 2 eggs
- 80 g rolled oats
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp yogurt or milk
- Mini chocolate chips or raisins for eyes
Preparation in the Air Fryer:
- Mash bananas, mix with eggs, oats, baking powder, cinnamon, and milk.
- Fill the batter into small silicone molds and decorate with raisin or chocolate chip eyes.
- Bake in the air fryer at 320°F for 12 to 14 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly–and the monster buffet is ready!
Why the Muffins Are So Healthy:
Bananas are true power fruits–they provide quick energy, many vitamins, and minerals. According to the German Nutrition Society (DGE), a banana (about 120 grams) counts as one serving of fruit and provides around 100 kilocalories. They contain little fat but plenty of potassium and magnesium, trace elements, as well as vitamin B6 and vitamin C. As they ripen, the starch turns into sugar, making them naturally sweeter. Bananas also provide valuable fiber like pectin, which supports digestion.2
Oats are among the most valuable whole grain products. They contain complex carbohydrates, high-quality protein, and unsaturated fatty acids. They also provide important minerals like iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, and phosphorus–as well as B vitamins, especially B1, B6, and E. The combination of oats and banana makes these muffins not only delicious but also highly nutritious.3
Recipe 2: Spooky Fries with Bell Pepper Magic Dip
Fries are always a hit–especially when they come from the air fryer. Golden brown on the outside, soft on the inside, and with a spooky twist: I simply cut the potatoes at an angle into “monster fingers”–tapering slightly at the front and with small almond pieces as fingernails. It looks great on the Halloween plate and immediately amazes the kids.

The secret: A teaspoon of oil is enough to make them really crispy. There’s also a mild bell pepper dip that looks like ketchup but is actually made from yogurt and tomato paste–much healthier.
Ingredients (for 2 servings):
- 300 g waxy potatoes
- 1 tsp olive oil
- ½ tsp sweet paprika powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp almond flakes (for the “nails”)
For the Dip:
- 100 g Greek yogurt (3.5%)
- 1 tsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- A splash of lemon juice
- A pinch of salt
Preparation in the Air Fryer:
- Peel potatoes, cut into thick sticks.
- Mix with oil, salt, and paprika powder.
- Bake in the air fryer at 375°F for 14 to 16 minutes until golden brown, shaking briefly halfway through.
- Mix all dip ingredients until creamy.
Why the Fries Are So Healthy:
Potatoes are little powerhouses–they provide complex carbohydrates, fiber, and plant-based protein, but hardly any fat. When heated, the starch becomes particularly digestible and provides the body with long-lasting energy. They also contain vitamin C, B vitamins, potassium, and secondary plant compounds that strengthen the immune system.4
Bell peppers add color and nutrients to the plate: Especially the red variety is a true vitamin C wonder–with around 140 milligrams per 100 grams, even richer than citrus fruits. They also provide beta-carotene, vitamin E, folic acid, and many antioxidants that fight free radicals and support the immune system.5
The Greek yogurt in the dip provides creaminess and nutrient power at the same time. With its high protein content, it keeps you full for a long time, provides calcium for strong bones, and contains probiotic cultures that promote digestion. Together, this makes a snack dream team that tastes good and does good.6

Recipe 3: Mini Spider Balls with Sweet Potato and Cheese
This recipe immediately caused a wow effect at our house–even during shaping. I mixed the sweet potato with oats, egg, and a bit of cheese, rolled small balls from it, and baked them golden brown in the air fryer. The scent? Delightfully sweet and nutty.
Then came the fun part: Each ball became a little “spider” with a few half pretzel sticks. Eight legs in, two raisins as eyes on top–and the spooky (and quite cute) snack was ready! The balls are crispy on the outside, soft and slightly cheesy on the inside–just what kids love.

Ingredients (for 10 pieces):
- 250 g cooked sweet potato (mashed)
- 40 g grated cheese (e.g., Gouda, mozzarella, or Emmental)
- 2 tbsp oats
- 1 egg
- Salt, pepper, paprika
- 5 pretzel sticks (halved, for the legs)
- Optional: 10 small raisins or peppercorns for eyes
Preparation in the Air Fryer:
- Mix cooked sweet potato with cheese, oats, egg, and spices.
- Form small balls (about the size of a ping-pong ball) from the mixture.
- Bake in the air fryer at 356°F for 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool briefly after baking, then insert the half pretzel sticks as “legs” on the sides.
- If desired, add small eyes with raisins or peppercorns.
Why the Spider Balls Are So Healthy:
Sweet potatoes–or yams–shine in many dishes as a main ingredient because they are great fillers. They contain little fat but plenty of complex carbohydrates and fiber. They also boast calcium, vitamin C, and vitamin E–and especially beta-carotene, the precursor of vitamin A, which gives them their bright orange color and is important for skin, vision, and the immune system.7
Cheese not only adds flavor but also valuable nutrients: It contains protein, healthy fats, and plenty of calcium, which strengthens bones, teeth, and muscles. Especially varieties like Emmental also bring phosphorus, vitamin A, B2, and B12–the perfect complement to sweet potato.8
Conclusion
I never thought you could create such Halloween snacks with an air fryer–but here’s my proof. No sugar rush, no table disputes, just fun, color, and healthy ingredients.
After tasting, I naturally asked my two testers how it was:
My nephew grinned and said enthusiastically, “Cool!”–my niece, on the other hand, looked at me briefly, shrugged, and just said, “Eh, forget it.” At that moment, I almost held it against her–but only almost.

My conclusion: The air fryer makes healthy eating easy–without hassle, without chaos, and with snacks that work even on Halloween and for kids.
