Hollywood star Russell Crowe recently amazed many with his noticeable weight loss. Reports say the actor, who once weighed 278 pounds, decided to make a change and lost 55 pounds in a year. A combination of therapy for his arthritis, exercise, and a change in diet led to his success. What Russell Crowe now focuses on in his diet, besides giving up alcohol, was revealed by his friend Ralf Moeller in an interview with FITBOOK. They have been friends since filming “Gladiator.”
Ralf Moeller is a welcome guest not only on German red carpets but also in Hollywood, where the 66-year-old has many friends, including celebrities like Russell Crowe. He had lunch with Crowe about a month and a half ago and recently worked out with both him and Arnold Schwarzenegger at a gym, he revealed in a conversation with FITBOOK editor-in-chief Melanie Hoffmann during the “European Fitness Award.” The interview was the perfect opportunity to ask him about the details of Crowe’s weight loss.

Losing Weight at 60 is Not So Easy
“He had gained weight for some projects—as much as was necessary for the role,” explained Ralf Moeller about why Russell Crowe recently had a few extra pounds. Like other actors in Hollywood, Crowe has always fully committed to his roles physically, undergoing necessary transformations. “But losing it again is something you can do faster in your mid-30s than when you’re 50 or, as he is now, 60 years old,” Moeller noted, adding, “But he has managed it now.”
Russell Crowe Changed His Diet
Anyone who has tried to lose more than just a couple of pounds knows: Exercise is important, but diet is crucial. “You achieve it with a diet that doesn’t involve starving, because you have to maintain it over many months,” Ralf Moeller emphasized in the FITBOOK interview. “Most people go on a diet where they eat very little, but then the weight comes back after a few weeks. It’s about maintaining it continuously over a longer period or, ideally, forever. I would highly recommend vegetarian or vegan diets.”
Russell Crowe adhered to these guidelines and managed to lose 55 pounds. “He actually cut out a lot of meat, especially red meat, and sugar. Instead, he focused on eggs and proteins. We also exchanged ideas about this. And it worked—now he can wield the sword.” This puts him in much better shape for the upcoming filming and sword fights for the “Highlander” reboot alongside Henry Cavill.
