Actress Brooke Shields proves that you can still have a great figure in your mid-50s. The 55-year-old occasionally shares glimpses of her workout routine on Instagram. She recently revealed to a U.S. magazine what she particularly focuses on during her training.
Brooke Shields became famous at a very young age in the 1980 classic “The Blue Lagoon,” has been in the spotlight ever since, and is accustomed to being constantly judged, among other things, for her appearance. The Hollywood star seems to handle this pressure with ease today. Brooke Shields revealed this some time ago in an interview—and also shared how she currently stays fit.
Overview
Aging Makes It Harder to Stay Fit
In 2024, Brooke Shields shared about her fitness in an interview on the U.S. show “Today”: “It’s harder to stay in shape. It’s much easier to get out of shape quickly. That was quite a shock to my system.” Apparently, she didn’t need a rigorous training regimen in the past: Her regular Broadway performances demanded a lot from her body. “That gets you in shape. … I come out of a Broadway show with muscles and fit and don’t even realize I’ve done it,” the actress recalls. But that no longer works; today, “I have to train,” Brooke Shields revealed. This is also to keep the belly fat, which grows faster now than before, in comparison.
But it’s not just the actress’s body that changes with age; Shields’ attitude toward exercise has also evolved: “The most important thing for me is to find things that I really enjoy now, instead of torturing myself in the gym to fit into something, because that is so demoralizing for me and so frustrating.”
Brooke Shields Relies on a Special Form of Pilates
What kind of training does Brooke Shields enjoy? Pilates. More specifically, she relies on “really difficult Pilates,” including the Norfar Method. This method takes the most challenging exercises of classical Pilates and combines them with cardio, strength, and dynamic choreography. Equipment like the popular Pilates reformer is often used.1
“I never used to like Pilates,” the actress explained in an interview, but the described training concept convinced her of the low-impact workout. She leaves the classes happy and “dripping wet” with sweat. “Then a kind of cardio, like a SoulCycle class or rowing with music—just ten minutes. Just that alone allows me to see initial results,” Shields said.

How Brooke Shields Trains Strength with Her Trainer
Moreover, the 60-year-old seems not to neglect strength training. For years, she has apparently relied on working with boxer and celebrity personal trainer Ngo Okafor. For example, in early 2024, he posted on Instagram that his famous client had tried boxing for the first time.
In a video released in summer 2024, the trainer revealed how Brooke Shields trained to “look good in a swimsuit” for “her new film.” This likely refers to “Mother of the Bride,” the Netflix film in which the actress appeared last summer.
