His career is skyrocketing: We’re talking about actor Jacob Elordi, 28. After his success as the creature in “Frankenstein,” he now wants to team up with Margot Robbie, 35, in the classic adaptation of “Wuthering Heights.” But even before that, the Australian played various roles that often required him to have a fit body. That’s why FITBOOK researched what is known about Jacob Elordi’s fitness routine and training programs. It turns out that at the start of his career, Jacob Elordi had to succumb to extreme fitness pressure and train himself to have a six-pack.

From the heartthrob in “The Kissing Booth” films, to “Saltburn” and “Euphoria,” to “Frankenstein” and “Wuthering Heights”–not only is Jacob Elordi’s diverse choice of roles impressive, but so is his appearance. The Hollywood star stands an impressive 6 feet 5 inches tall and looks well-toned rather than skinny. But how does the 28-year-old achieve this form? With various workouts demanded by his roles, which, as he revealed in the past, don’t always bring him joy. We also found a rare glimpse into his private training–not an easy feat, as the actor, quite atypical for his generation, has no official social media accounts.

“Kissing Booth 1″–High Fitness Pressure

Jacob Elordi first gained attention in the Netflix films “The Kissing Booth” and “The Kissing Booth 2.” He played the heartthrob the protagonist falls for. At the very start of his career, the then early 20-something felt immense pressure to meet a certain look. No wonder, as the first part featured several scenes showcasing his six-pack. Elordi revealed in a 2020 interview with the U.S. ” Men’s Health“: “I trained extremely hard for the first film because the script demanded it. I was so terribly nervous that I wouldn’t live up to the script’s expectations.”

Jacob Elordi’s Gym Training Plan

Jacob Elordi focused on full-body workouts. “Men’s Health” explained in 2021 how this was structured:

  • Tire Flip: From a squat position, grab a tire with a tight core and flip it using power from the legs and upper body.
  • Jumping Jack with Battle Ropes: Grab a rope with both hands and perform a jumping jack. The hands don’t clap at the top. The arms are extended upward, forming a V-position from the torso.
  • Ball Slam: Hold a medicine ball in both hands in front of the torso, then move it overhead. Rise onto the toes and stretch the entire body. Next, slam the ball to the ground with force, bend the knees, and move the hips back. Repeat.
  • Plank-up: Start in a forearm plank, then move to the hands first on the right, then the left, and back to the forearm plank. Maintain form by keeping the core engaged.

During filming in South Africa, the young actor worked almost obsessively on his body. He trained twice a day at the gym, seven days a week! The goal: lift as much weight as possible, build muscle, and look extremely defined. However, Elordi didn’t feel well during this time. He emphasized in the interview: “It was so much work, and I hated every second of it.”

“Kissing Booth 2” and “Euphoria”–Moving Away from Gym Obsession

Afterward, Jacob Elordi had enough of this extreme and monotonous training. For “Kissing Booth 2,” he indirectly refused any training. Consequently, the sequel focused less on bare skin and more on emotions. Elordi’s subsequent acclaimed role as high school psychopath Nate in “Euphoria” required him to be fit but leaner, meaning less muscular. Therefore, the actor changed his training routine.

He switched from bodybuilding to daily yoga and Pilates sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes. The focus was on his health and mental well-being amid the burgeoning Hollywood frenzy. “It’s more about function than appearance,” Elordi explained the purpose of his workouts. “Honestly, I have no interest in going to the beach and looking like The Rock,” he added.

“Saltburn” Workout–Back to the Gym for Athleticism

Jacob Elordi’s fitness routine, for someone reportedly weighing around 183 pounds and having a BMI of 22 at 6 feet 5 inches tall, is anything but boring. For his role in “Saltburn,” the actor returned to the gym. This time, the focus was on definition and an athletic look rather than maximum muscle gain. This was achieved by focusing on compound exercises, which train multiple muscles simultaneously. He often performed these in supersets (find out what that means here). For the upper body, he relied on cable machine training, dumbbell exercises for shoulders and biceps, and dumbbell rows for the back. He strengthened his legs with squats and deadlifts, as well as leg extensions and leg raises. This was supported by a diet plan with a calorie deficit and increased protein intake.1

Together, Everything Becomes Easier

A strategy recommended by experts, especially in cases of motivation problems, seems to make training easier for Jacob Elordi: working out with a fitness buddy. Together, a workout can be more fun, and you can motivate and help each other to persevere. Workout appointments also make it less likely to skip a session.

For Elordi, his “Saltburn” co-star Barry Keoghan appears to be such a fitness buddy. In 2023, a rare snapshot of Jacob Elordi during a private training session found its way to social media, causing a stir.

“Everyone Wanted to Talk About My Body”

A media moment that was likely uncomfortable for Jacob Elordi. In the previously mentioned “Men’s Health” interview from 2020, the actor already confessed that he felt uncomfortable with the focus on his body. The vain muscle type who does everything to look good–that simply doesn’t match his personality, even though he initially went down that path at the start of his career. “I was super young at the time and was thrown into this world where everyone wanted to talk about my body… it just disgusted me. I can’t identify with that at all.”
