At 57, Jennifer Aniston has one thing in mind: aging healthily and happily. In an interview, the actress revealed how her parents and friends play a role in this, how her perspective on exercise has changed, and what a perfect wellness day looks like.
Sauna and Ice Bathing
Her morning starts with gentle exercise, followed by sweating in the sauna and then shivering in an ice bath–this is how Jennifer Aniston’s self-care routine begins. Special breathing techniques help her push through. “They might not do anything for the body, but I don’t care. I just love how they feel. You feel like a new person afterward,” the actress said in a People interview about ice bathing.
“Cold stimuli, such as cold showers or ice bathing, can activate brown fat and support anti-inflammatory metabolic pathways–especially when combined with regular exercise,” described Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Kälicke, a specialist in surgery, orthopedics, and trauma surgery, as well as an author and longevity expert, on the effects of targeted cold stimuli in this FITBOOK article.

Giving Loneliness No Chance
Jennifer Aniston prefers to spend her self-care days, or at least parts of them, in the company of good friends. With them, she enjoys “a great lunch, followed by a spa day with facials and a hair mask.”
Whether consciously or unconsciously, Aniston also addresses a factor that is increasingly coming into focus in research: loneliness. Studies have shown that loneliness or social isolation can negatively affect cognitive aging.1 A recent study concluded that loneliness could cost up to six healthy years of life. Another study suggested that loneliness can act as an “amplifier” of mental illnesses and, in some cases, even become life-threatening.2,3
Training as a Self-Care and Longevity Strategy
Time for oneself, moments of well-being, sauna sessions and ice baths, and enjoying good company–all these sound like important components for healthy and happy aging. Another major component is Jennifer Aniston’s training, to which the actress apparently dedicates significantly more time than to wellness.
Over the years, the actress has often mentioned that her attitude toward exercise has fundamentally changed. In the current “People” interview, she also recalls what used to matter: being as thin as possible! The former “Friends” star didn’t give a thought to what the body needs to stay agile and fit in the second half of life. Understandably, that’s different now at 57.
The time when Jennifer Aniston avoided any strength training out of fear of developing “unfeminine muscles” and instead tortured herself with hours of cardio to stay thin is over. Today, the focus is on maintaining muscles and strength. And not ending up like her parents. “My parents were old when the end of their lives came, and they couldn’t move anymore,” she revealed. “Who wants to be lucky enough to live to 80 or 90–and then not be able to get up and move?”
That’s why Jennifer Aniston now prioritizes strength training that promotes her muscles. “Muscles stabilize the skeleton. If we don’t have strong muscles, our bones become weak.” The Hollywood actress wants to prevent this frailty–with perfect wellness days and training that is gentle enough not to “destroy her body” like before, but still effective.
