Lenny Kravitz is an absolute phenomenon. The musician seems to defy aging. At 62, he has a washboard stomach that men half his age can only dream of. Now, his trainer has revealed how he achieves this with the 50-25-12-5 method and what else is behind Lenny Kravitz’s fit physique.
In the past, the rock musician stormed the international charts with songs such as “American Woman” or “Fly Away.” Nowadays, he garners attention not only with his music. More than ever, his body is in the spotlight, as the man seems to defy aging. He confidently showcases this, as in the music video “TK421,” where he nearly bares it all. Viewers are left in disbelief: Is this man really over 60? In an interview with the men’s magazine “Men’s Health,” Lenny Kravitz, along with his trainer Dodd Romero, reveals the secret to his physique.
How the 50-25-12-5 Method Works
The number combination “50–25–12–5” might sound unusual at first, but it’s one of the key factors in Lenny Kravitz’s training. The musician typically starts each exercise with light weights and 50 repetitions. This is sensible, as it warms up the muscles being used, protecting against injuries. Then, the weight is increased and the repetitions are reduced to 25. In the third set, the weight is further increased and the repetitions are reduced to twelve. In the fourth set, maximum weight is used with only five repetitions. This way, the musician goes through a complete cycle from strength endurance with light weight and many repetitions to muscle failure with maximum weight and minimal repetitions.

Kravitz Trains Five to Six Times a Week
Besides the right training method, continuity and discipline play a crucial role in Lenny Kravitz’s training. He usually trains five to six times a week for 45 to 60 minutes each session. In each workout, he focuses on only two to three body parts, which are then challenged with eight to ten main exercises. The 45 to 60 minutes might sound surprisingly short, but one must have the discipline to stick to the training five to six days a week – no matter what.
The Goal: Definition Instead of Mass
With Lenny Kravitz, it’s not sheer muscle mass that stands out, but the extremely low body fat percentage. This makes all muscles, especially the abs, clearly visible. This aligns with the musician’s training goal. “I don’t want to be big or bulky,” Kravitz says in “Men’s Health.” “I want a very lean silhouette, a mix of Spider-Man and Bruce Lee, you know what I mean? Bruce Lee looked good in clothes. He was cool, a lean, casual guy who obviously had muscles and moved very elegantly.” No wonder the musician weighs only 152 pounds at a height of 5 feet 9 inches.
Lenny Kravitz’s Six-Pack Workout
A distinctive feature of Kravitz is his core muscles, especially his extremely defined six-pack. This, of course, requires a lot of work. Instead of taking a break between the main training sets, the musician prefers to train his core. He usually completes two to three sets with 21 repetitions each.
The exercises he incorporates include leg raises, planks, and various crunch variations. This way, Kravitz achieves at least 336 repetitions per training session to maintain his “jewels.” “That’s his be-all and end-all,” says his trainer Dodd Romero. “Lenny wears his shirts and jackets open so you can see all these jewels. It’s an important body part for him.”

And Then There’s the Musician’s Diet
It should be clear to everyone that training is only half of Lenny Kravitz’s fitness success. The other half is diet. And here, too, the musician shows iron discipline.
“I pay close attention to what I put into my body,” he explained in an earlier interview, also with the men’s magazine. It’s known that Kravitz primarily follows a vegan diet. And since moving to the Bahamas, he takes advantage of growing his own fruits and vegetables, mostly consuming raw foods.
The selection is also extremely large. While the superstar gave a glimpse into his fridge, he explained: “There’s green and more green: cucumbers, mangoes, broccoli, kale, lettuce.” For preparation, as seen in the video, more exotic fruits were ready on a countertop, freshly picked from his farm. “Here are breadfruit and soursop (fruit of the soursop; editor’s note), my favorite fruit. Soursop is so healthy,” the singer explained. Also found in Kravitz’s fruit selection: apples, lemons, and okra. The latter are the fruits of the hibiscus plant. The pods resemble oversized beans or peppers in shape.
Kravitz Eats His First Meal Around 3 p.m.
It’s not just about what he eats, but also when he (doesn’t) eat. He usually fasts until 3 or 4 p.m. “It’s not because I practice intermittent fasting, it’s just how I am,” Kravitz explains to the men’s magazine. He can’t just get up and eat right away.
In general, he eats very low-carb, mostly vegan and raw. However, eggs have now made it onto his menu. “I usually start with an egg white omelet with lots of vegetables,” says Kravitz. “Then I have a protein shake and later a salad.”
His favorite protein shake consists of “Fiction” protein powder (made from sprouted rice, algae, and peas), which he enriches with dates, leafy greens, and avocado. He also drinks plenty of water and takes “Perfect Amino,” a supplement with branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that support muscle structure.
But even Lenny Kravitz occasionally craves carbohydrates. Then he indulges in bread, croissants, or pasta. However, such exceptions are rare. After all, he considers his body his temple, as he once aptly put it.
